Wall Street Journal Mentions CMS

Today the Wall Street Journal explored how churches are using technology in an piece called "Churches Embrace the Web In Bid to Attract Members". It covers churches using new sites like MySpace, Flickr and Friendster and includes a mention and link to Church Marketing Sucks:

Attracting young people, as well as staying relevant, are two of the most common reasons churches are trying these sites, said Brad Abare, who posts tips and interviews on the blog Church Marketing Sucks. The tough-love name reflects the blunt discussion he thinks many religious organizations need to have, he said. "We have the greatest story ever told, and nobody's listening," he said.

CMS Lens Chosen as Lens of the Day

The Church Marketing Sucks lens on the web 2.0 site Squidoo was chosen as the Lens of the Day today. Squidoo's Editor in Chief Megan Casey called Church Marketing Sucks a "very smart and thought-provoking blog."

She went on to compliment the lens as:

  • a fantastic starting point for newcomers to the blog.
  • an easy introduction to the philosophies put forth by Church Marketing Sucks.
  • successfully spreading awareness for a compelling nonprofit organization.
  • very clear about 3 ways visitors can take action and help.
  • a great lens in its own right–organized succinctly and clearly. (I especially like the Church Marketing Lab photos!)

Aw, shucks. Thanks, Megan. Check out our lens yourself for an introduction to our church communications blog Church Marketing Sucks, and be sure to check out our blog entry on how your church can use Squidoo.

Buzz Conference Recap

The Buzz Conference finished up yesterday in Washington, D.C., featuring our founder and president Brad Abare sharing his message "Return to Sender." Audio versions of Brad's talk are available from Buzz host National Community Church.

Blogger and Buzz attendee Travis Johnson commented, "Mad props to Brad Abare for some seriously cool linear steps to conceptual positioning. ... Brad was a stud." You just can't make up that kind of endorsement. Check out the full vicarious recap over at Church Marketing Sucks.

Buzz organizer Mark Batterson offered a $40 discount to CMS readers and at least 25 took advantage of the offer, saving a total of $1,000. Now you can't say we've never done anything for you.
