CFCC Meetups for 2011

The Center for Church Communication (CFCC) is organizing a number of informal meetups at church marketing events around the country this year. The idea is to focus on what many people enjoy the most about events—the conversations. CFCC Co-Director Tim Schraeder is taking the lead and has set up a CFCC Meetup Group to coordinate the efforts.

“Conversations matter,” Tim said in the announcement post on Church Marketing Sucks. “I know in my own life, I’ve been impacted by the conversations and relationships that were made in the hallways of conferences I’ve attended.”

The first meetup will be at Catalyst West in Irvine, Calif., on March 2. Other meetups are planned for Cultivate, Echo, Story and Catalyst East.

Cultivate Conference to Support CFCC

The Cultivate Conference for nonprofit and church communication leaders is coming to Southern California in May. The event is being organized by Center for Church Communication (CFCC) board member Dawn Nicole Baldwin and CFCC co-director Tim Schraeder. All proceeds from the event will be donated to two charities: CFCC and InvisiblePeople.tv, a nonprofit telling the stories of homeless people.

Cultivate is May 4-5, 2011, at First Christian Church in Huntington Beach, California. Registration is $129 per person through April 4 and $159 thereafter.

“Cultivate is more of a conversation that a conference,” says Schraeder. “Oftentimes the conversations that happen in the hallways of conferences are more important than the content being shared from the stage. At Cultivate, we are bringing the hallway conversation to the stage.”

The Cultivate Conference first convened in October 2009 in Chicago where nearly 300 communication leaders gathered to discuss the challenges and opportunities for churches and nonprofit organizations leveraging social media.

“We’re most excited about the opportunity to help those that are helping others,” says Baldwin, founder of the brand strategy firm, AspireOne. “These communication leaders are doing some amazing things—they just might not have a platform to share their stories. Everyone wins.”

Speakers for Cultivate 2011 include:

In addition to the speakers, a featured panel made up of communications leaders from nonprofit, social justice and ministry organizations will help disseminate and  discuss content and ideas shared by the speakers.

More information and registration details can be found online at www.cultivateconference.com.

Brad Abare and Phil Cooke Live

Conversant Life bills itself as an online home for “real life spiritual conversations,” and recently Center for Church Communication founder Brad Abare had the chance to participate in a live conversation hosted on their site. The live-streaming event lasted just over an hour on Thursday, November 19th. Brad tag-teamed the conversation with CFCC board member Phil Cooke as the two fielded questions on marketing in the context of the church.

The event was a huge success, and CFCC was honored to participate in the forum. It’s exciting to see conversations happening about the current role and state of church marketing as well as dreams of what the future holds.

You can view the whole stream online at Vimeo.

Q Conference Meetup & Discount

On April 27-29, 2009 the Q conference is coming to Austin, Texas. This is not a bells and whistles hipster event with big names and games. It’s a strategic gathering of thinkers and doers who want to see change and bring change. I participated in the last two Q gatherings (Atlanta and New York) and you can see for yourself the caliber of conversation.

Q is not for everyone. However, we know there are a select group of people who should be there and that might include you. We’ve worked out a special CFCC discount which saves you $150 over the current rate–if you register by December 31, 2008 using the code “CFCC09″.

We’d like to see you there if you can make it. Michael Buckingham, Josh Cody, Kevin Hendricks and I are planning to attend Q, and we’ll be hosting a special meet up for those a part of the CFCC community.

Drop me a line once you register and if you’re interested in connecting with others from the CFCC community. Once we know how many of us will be there we’ll determine when and where we meet.

Church Marketing Lab LIVE! @MinistryCOM

The Church Marketing Lab is going live. Moderator Michael Buckingham will be hosting a Church Marketing Lab LIVE! workshop at this year’s MinistryCOM, Sept. 13-14 in Nashville, Tenn.

It’s a chance to put some flesh to the lab, critique some marketing samples in person and learn from one another.

2007 CFCC Events

CFCC founder Brad Abare will be speaking at several events in 2007:

  • NRB Reach 2007, Feb. 17-19 in Orlando, Fla. – Brad is doing the “They Aren’t Getting It” workshop with Brad Hill on Sunday.
  • National New Church Conference, April 23-26 in Orlando, Fla. – Brad is doing a Creative Communication pre-conference workshop with Mark Batterson.
  • MinistryCOM Conference, September 13-14 in Nashville, Tenn. – Brad will be serving again as a general session speaker.

Show up to cheer him along and, more importantly, learn a few things about church communications from Brad and the many other speakers and workshop leaders.

MinistryCOM 2006

Early this month I had the privilege of meeting a handful of the people who hang out in the Church Marketing Lab. We were all attending the second annual MinistryCOM event in Phoenix, and coming together to sharpen our skills, meet new people, and discover more ways of telling the Story better. Thanks to everyone who stuck it out for the last session on Friday afternoon. It was nice to have a few people stick around so I wasn’t speaking to the crickets.

I love putting faces to names, especially names that grace us with their digital ink here in the Center for Church Communication. I’m blown away by the creativity that exists within the community we’re all a part of developing. Thanks for being on this journey with us!

The folks at MinistryCOM have already invited our participation in next year’s event. Stay tuned for details on how we might be able to help build the community of church communicators through this event and others like it. Your involvement is crucial!

Get Together at MinistryCom

A few folks in the Church Marketing Lab were talking about the upcoming MinistryCom conference in Phoenix Sept. 7-8, and they thought it would be fun to have a little gathering of Church Marketing Lab folks during lunch.

We loved the idea, especially because we didn’t have to plan it. So during lunch on Friday at MinstryCom we’re going to have a little Center for Church Communication get together. We’ll have a few tables set aside and you can meet fellow Church Marketing Lab members, fellow commenters from Church Marketing Sucks and some of the folks who make CFCC happen.

Send us an e-mail if you’d like to join us so we can get a head count and reserve enough space. It’s just an informal time to hang out and meet fellow communicators face to face.

Events Lab Simplified

The Events Lab just got simpler.

Thanks to Google releasing some added functionality to their calendar, we can now post the Events Lab calendar on our site and you can check out the Events Lab without a Google login.

So if you’re looking for upcoming church marketing and communications related events, check out the Events Lab.

Introducing the Events Lab

Events are a great way to learn, interact and just get away from it all. You can learn more about your field of expertise and discover new ideas, you can interact with people and discover that you’re not the only one trying to do what you do, and you can change the scenery and have a chance to recharge your batteries.

So we’ve started the Events Lab, a public calendar listing all sorts of church marketing and communications related events. This week alone there are four events from Miami to Phoenix to Philadelphia to Chicago.

It’s powered by Google Calendar, so you can subscribe via RSS or iCal and keep track of the events yourself. We’ve also probably missed a few events, so if you know of one that should be included, let us know.
